Staying While Black: 7 Domestic Black-Owned Hotel Destinations for 2022

As we head into the warm months of the year, vacations are at the top of everyone’s mind.  While the need to spread our wings is making our palms itch, many of us still want to stay domestic for the time being. In doing so, I strongly encourage you to visit one of these Black-owned hotel destinations located right here in the US.   

I’ve chosen 7 “wallet friendly” family owned resorts, but please, feel free to do your research to find other Black-owned hotel or spa destinations in the location you are traveling to next!  

Le Maison Midtown: Houston, Texas

Susan Owens and Genora Boykins’ elegantly decorated 7 bedroom bed and breakfast,  nestled in central Houston, Texas is just mere minutes from downtown, but secluded enough to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city. 

If you are a fan of European flair, this 3 story home with picturesque views and southern and continental breakfast options is a go-to stop to add to your 2022 travel list. 

The Urban Cowboy: Nashville, Tennessee

Do you live for experiences? What about if your vacation accommodation itself was an experience? Come back…I want you to see this before you book your flight! The Urban Cowboy is another quaint location with only 8 suites — each one exquisitely decorated as its own adult experience.  

Whether you are planning a girls trip, romantic getaway with your significant other, or you want to do a couples trip, here’s an option for any 21 and older themed fun you can think of.  Also be sure to enjoy the complimentary cocktails.

Akwaaba Mansion: Brooklyn, New York

A truly luxury experience, the Akwaaba mansion is located in the heart of upscale NYC and is owned by Monique Greenwood and Glenn Pogue. This husband and wife duo have taken painstaking care to add extravagant amenities around the property, including a jacuzzi tub for each suite  and an immensely open sun porch. 

Perfect for anything from a quick romantic getaway all the way to a girls’ trip! 

Hilton Cabana: Miami Beach, Florida

Located slightly north of South Beach, the Hilton Cabana, nestled on the beach, has multiple pools on the property allowing guests to experience the Miami feel and vibe without the mayhem of busy downtown. The owner, Thomas J. Baltimore, Jr. made sure to decorate the property in 1950’s Miami motifs, directly attracting families and couples. 

The Clevedale Inn: Spartanburg, South Carolina

If you love a good trip to the south, The Clevedale Inn will not disappoint. This eclectic and beautiful space is framed with extraordinary outdoor views and themed suites including the MackRail Cabin car, a bridal suite, and a Hawaiian room.

Sonesta Silicon Valley: Milpitas, California
