Serial entrepreneurs and power couple Chid Liberty and Georgie Badiel Liberty reportedly sold their massive upstate property in Rhinebeck, New York, according to Black Enterprise. The off-market sale of the 236-acre biodynamic farm closed earlier this month for an impressive $13.75 million. Six Senses, considered one of the world’s most luxurious hospitality brands, is now the property owner.
Chid is the co-founder and CEO of the fair-trade apparel manufacturer Liberty & Justice as well as the Made in Africa label. His wife, Georgie, is a model, activist, and philanthropist. The couple reportedly purchased the farm last year for $8.5 million with a friend to serve as a family compound.
“The idea was to make [the property] our main residence and do retreats there with impact organizations,” Chid, a native of Liberia, told Gimme Shelter. (His wife grew up in Burkina Faso and the Ivory Coast.) “We did a bunch of retreats for Equity Alliance and Unreasonable Impact, and hosted our own, with yoga, hikes, and horses. We loved it.”
Six Senses Sets Their Sights On Upstate New York
Six Senses’ portfolio consists of resorts, spas, and residences in popular destinations around the world. While there’s no confirmation on the company’s plans, sources say Six Senses will transform the land into a resort.
“No Hudson Valley project has been announced, so Six Senses is unable to comment,” a representative told The Post.
The property was never placed on the market, however, incoming calls from prospective buyers poured in about the farm originally built with traditional Hudson Valley architecture.
“We said no at least three times, then [they] named a ridiculous price,” Chid said.
The property features a stone house built in 1768 with eight fireplaces, two bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths, and an artist’s studio. The land spans hundreds of acres, boasting picturesque scenery, including a 7,200-square-foot barn. The farm has a special-use permit and was also formerly an equine therapy center.
Black Enterprise also reports that the Libertys are enjoying their Williamsburg home while traveling the world. The couple is also pursuing new business opportunities including the launch of a Made in Africa swim line with Target. Additionally, Georgie’s charity, the Georgie Mandiel Foundation, recently raised $1 million toward her mission to bring clean water and sanitation to Burkina Faso.
