The theme for 2022 is “Reshaping our Community through Ownership and Luxury”. Dr. Tucker, Co-Founder says, “There has been an explosion of black entrepreneurs expanding their brands to underserved communities while simultaneously purchasing luxury hotels, co-founding private clubs, and starting luxury products within the DMV region. Business owners and operators focused their strategy on intentionality these last two years and we are now seeing the outcomes.”

As in previous years, DMV Black Restaurant Week will have the R. R. Bowie Cocktail Competition showcasing the best bartenders in the DMV will kick off the week but new this year is incorporating their 5th Annual Business of Food and Beverage Education platform as snippets of education within each event and bring hands-on tools, knowledge, and tips for participants to take can implement in their work and/or business. All business owners and aspiring owners in the industry are invited to participate, including hospitality, app creators, food bloggers and writers, chefs, cafes, tea and spice curators, food trucks, farmers, caterers – everyone.

“We have intentionally focused on our partnerships with organizations and resident-owned businesses in Wards 7 & 8 including Anacostia Arts Center with Wacif and food experience company Flavorture. They are still creating, still serving and still providing the best hospitality money can and can’t buy,” says Co-Founder and Chef Furard Tate. “New for 2022, we will have programming focusing on the interception of beverage and community and intentional discussion on what black luxury is in our regional space.”
